Spatial Data for Sub-Saharan Africa.

An archive of spatial data for IITA's mandate region, sub-Saharan Africa, is being compiled from public-access databases, IITA and other CG centres projects, and data produced by national mapping agencies in Africa. The data includes SRTM and ASTER DEMS, climate maps from CRU/UEA, vegetation maps from MODIS and Africover and Landsat imagery from the Geocover archives as well as many national and regional maps. This database is continually improved as new data is located or generated

Technical assistance was provided to the SRO's to facilitate objective and participatory site selection

USAID Southern Africa Livelihoods Programme.

GIS has been used to target prime areas in Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia for market-led agricultural interventions as part of the IITA-managed Southern Africa Livelihoods Programme. Enumerators in each of these countries were trained in GPS techniques to undertake baseline surveys to aid in monitoring effectiveness of the programme.
